What would it take to make paintball markers athletic equipment not firearms under CA laws?

I cant stand the fact that paintball markers are called firearms in california. What would be a good way to gather paintballers from all over california and get the government to define paintball markers as athletic equipment and not firearms?

Find out what makes things like baseball & tennis ball shooters athletic equipment and try to apply that to paintball markers. See what makes a nail gun a tool.

You can also look back at the original markers, which were used to mark trees & cattle. See what those are classified as.

However, the problem here is the markers are designed for the sole purpose of shooting other people, so it will be very hard to convince people otherwise. It’ll be just as hard as trying to convince people real firearms are just tools.

The balls would probably have to be much much softer.

The one and only time I’ve been hit with a paint ball, it drew blood.

Granted my friend has his gun pumped up too high, but mannnnn!!!

Not nice.

Paintball guns ARE NOT considered firearms in California or any other state.

They may, like many other objects, be considered a dangerous weapon under certain circumstances, and there is no reason to change that.

If I remember correctly, a firearm must shoot at a minimum specific velocity (number I can’t recall at the moment).

A paintball fires well under this requirement and therefore can not be considered a firearm.
